Current clinical trials in Australia and New Zealand evaluating falls/fall injury outcomes

Current Australian and New Zealand research projects in the area of falls prevention can be found by searching the Australian New Zealand Clinical Trials Registry.

What is the ANZCTR?

The Australian New Zealand Clinical Trials Registry (ANZCTR) is an online database of clinical trials being undertaken in Australia, New Zealand, and internationally. It includes a wide range of health studies such as pharmaceuticals, surgical procedures, preventive measures, lifestyle interventions, medical devices, rehabilitation strategies and complementary therapies.

World Health Organization (WHO) recognition

In 2007, the ANZCTR was one of the first three trial registries to be recognised as a Primary Registry by the WHO International Clinical Trials Registry Platform (WHO ICTRP). This recognition is based on meeting strict standards for data content, quality and validity, accessibility, unique identification, technical capacity and administration.

The ANZCTR contributes data to the WHO ICTRP. You can search trials from all WHO-recognised registries at trialsearch.who.int/.

Key features

  • Publicly owned and managed by a not-for-profit organisation
  • Free trial registration
  • Mandatory fields required for WHO-compliant trial registration
  • All trial details are publicly available

The ANZCTR records key details about each trial, such as:

  • Trial objectives
  • Study design and sample size
  • Recruitment status
  • Treatments being tested
  • Outcomes measured
  • Data sharing plans (i.e. individual participant data)
  • Results after trial completion
  • Principal investigator
  • Contact person

This information allows the ANZCTR to meet the standards of the WHO and the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE).

A trial will be assigned a unique registration number once it has been approved and this number can be used throughout its lifecycle, including in publications.
